What does it mean for your business?

The Information Commissioner’s Office have produced a basic toolkit to help youQ
understand more, their 12 steps are listed in these pages but basically the RegulationeCatalogue
covers any information that you hold about people, how you process it and of course how
you keep it safe. System
The regulation doesn’t apply to a private individuals or households with no professionalQ
or commercial activity. eCatalogue
It doesn’t cover information that the authorities may be collating for an investigation into
criminal offences but it does cover how you handle your own CCTV system’s footage.System
                                                                 Q
Why does it affect CCTV systems? eCatalog

Just as the Data Protection Act covered CCTV, this does too.
By capturing an image of someone on CCTV you are in effect capturing personal data
about them so what you do with this “data” falls under this regulation too.
Don’t worry, we’ve put together a stack of tips, downloads plus a range of products in this
guide to make GDPR compliance easy.

When did it come into force?

The General Data Protection Regulations came into force on
Friday 25th May 2018 and at that point any organisations
found in breach of those new rules could face a fine.
The size of fine depends on the type of infringement but they
could reach a hefty 4% of a company’s turnover or €20 million,
whichever is greater.
The whole GDPR covers 12 areas so it’s wise to prepare your
business in advance and not be caught out. Follow our 12
steps to help guide you through the minefield of new rules.
